Terms of Service

What you agree to when you play on TaroMU. Plain language, no fine print.

What this is

TaroMU is a free, privately operated MU Online server, run by players for players. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Webzen Inc. or any of its subsidiaries. MU Online and all related trademarks belong to their respective owners.

By creating an account or playing, you accept the terms below. If you do not agree with them, simply do not use the service.

This document covers the service. The in-game rules — what counts as cheating, what gets you banned and for how long — live in the game rules.

Your account

  • You are responsible for everything that happens on your account, including actions taken by anyone you share it with.
  • Keep your password to yourself. Staff will never ask for it — not on Discord, not by email, not in game. Anyone who does is trying to steal your account.
  • Account sharing, selling, buying or trading accounts is done entirely at your own risk. We do not arbitrate ownership disputes and cannot restore an account you gave away.
  • One person may hold multiple accounts, but using several accounts to bypass a punishment or to abuse a reward system is not allowed.
  • You must provide a working email address. It is the only way to recover access if you forget your password.
We can restore an account after a hack only if you can prove it is yours — original email, registration details, payment history. Without that, we have no way to tell you apart from the person who took it.

Conduct

The short version: play the game, do not ruin it for others. Specifically, the following are not allowed:

  • Any third-party program that automates play, modifies the client beyond what we publish, or gives an advantage the game does not offer.
  • Exploiting bugs instead of reporting them. If you find something broken and use it, that is a choice — and it is punished as one.
  • Harassment, hate speech, threats, or impersonating staff.
  • Advertising other servers, scamming other players, or phishing for credentials.
  • Attacking the server or website — including attempts to overload, break into, or probe our systems.

The full list, with the punishment attached to each, is in the rulebook.

Purchases

Some things on the server can be bought with real money through our Store, processed by PayPal in EUR. What you are buying is in-game currency and virtual items — nothing more.

  • Purchases are delivered automatically once PayPal confirms the payment. Delivery usually takes seconds; if something goes wrong, open a ticket with the transaction ID.
  • Virtual goods are non-refundable once delivered. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for real money, and cannot be transferred between accounts by us.
  • If you believe you were charged incorrectly, contact us before opening a PayPal dispute — we can almost always resolve it faster directly.
  • Filing a chargeback for goods you received and kept results in a permanent ban. This is not a threat, it is simply what happens.
  • Donations support server and hosting costs. They do not buy immunity from the rules — paying customers are banned for cheating exactly like anyone else.
We never see your card details. PayPal handles the payment and only tells us that it succeeded, for how much, and which email paid.

Items & progress

  • Characters, items, currency and progress belong to the service, not to you. You hold a licence to use them while the server runs.
  • We do not restore items lost through your own actions — bad trades, being scammed by another player, dropping something, or a failed upgrade attempt.
  • We do restore items lost to a confirmed server-side fault, when logs show it.
  • Rates, drops, prices and event rewards can be rebalanced at any time. Nobody is entitled to the settings that existed when they started.

Enforcement

Punishments range from a warning to a permanent ban, depending on what happened and whether it was repeated. Every ban has a recorded reason.

  • If you think a punishment was a mistake, open a ticket. Staff will look at the logs and explain what was found.
  • Arguing in public chat or on Discord does not overturn anything. The ticket does.
  • Banned accounts keep their items — a ban is not a wipe — but the account stays closed for its duration.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or close any account that puts the server or its players at risk, even for something not explicitly listed here.

Availability

We aim to keep the server up around the clock, but this is a community project without an uptime guarantee. Maintenance, hardware failures, attacks and updates all cause downtime.

  • Planned maintenance is announced in advance where possible, on the status board and on Discord.
  • Downtime does not entitle anyone to compensation, though we often grant some anyway after a longer outage.
  • Should the server ever close permanently, we will announce it as early as we reasonably can. Purchases made before that point are not refundable.

Changes to these terms

These terms can change as the server evolves. Meaningful changes are announced on the website and on Discord, and the date at the top of this page is updated. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the new version.

Contact

Questions about these terms, an account issue, or a payment problem — the fastest route is the support page, which points you to the right channel. For anything formal, use the contact form.
